Over the past few years,codependency has become a bit of a 'label du jour.' Many people confuse feeling dependent on someone with being ‘codependent’ but codependency is about how you abandon yourself; your voice and your needs by consistently putting other people's needs before your own.

If you struggle with codependency, you’ll find that it’s incredibly addictive and it’s incredibly damaging to your self-esteem. 

Codependents are often seen as "nice" and as "considerate.” But while these are typically coveted traits, they can become toxic when they are motivated by:

  • control

  • the fear of disapproval

  • the fear of being unloved unless you make everyone else around you #1
